Maintenance

Replacing Heating Element(s).  Novaseal’s Pulse Sealers use a Nichrome flat wire for pulse-type heating elements.  Heating elements are available for purchase from Novaseal in various widths including 1/4-inch, 1/2-inch and 1-inch.  If and when the resultant seal has burn/cut marks or if the heating element breaks, immediate replacement is recommended.  Although replacing heating elements can be a one-person job, if it is the first time you are doing this, we recommend two people.  If, during the installation of new heating element, the heating element twists or creases, don’t use it.  If two people are installing the heating element, have one person assure that the heating element is always flat and controlled.  With experience, one person can replace heating elements, especially if that one person uses masking tape to hold the heating element in position while the new heating element is being installed.

Before replacing Heating Element(s), make sure the Safety Switch is in the OFF position.  Next, turn-off the Rocker Air Switch.  With the Rocker off, the heating element tension is off and heating element(s) can be replaced or adjusted.

With the Air Switch in the Off (Down) position, the heating element will tend to droop as shown in the photo.

Again, assure that the Safety Switch is OFF before proceeding.  Loosen, the bolt holding the heating element to the Rocker Assembly.

Next, loosen the bolt on the opposite side. Heating element will drop.  Remove it from the machine.

Layout the new heating element such that the heating element is approximately 3-inches longer than the heat sealing bar.  Use masking tape to hold the heating element to the sealing bar

Begin installation on one end.  Before cutting the heating element, assure that the heating element is approximately 3-inches longer than sealing bar, and that there is at about 3-inches past the sealing bar on the opposite side.

Pre-Crease.  Hold the heating element up to the Rocker Nut and gently pre-crease the heating element.

Assure heating element Alignment to itself.  Finalizing the crease assures a “Double-Back” section.  The folded over section needs to be exact.

    Alignment of fold-over shown here.

Use flat or smooth needle-nose pliers to assure an accurate crease
